Students who attend school in one of the following NY State counties are part of the HOBY New York East (NY-East) affiliate: Albany, Clinton, Columbia, Delaware, Dutchess, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Orange, Otsego, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Sullivan, Ulster, Warren, and Washington. Students from all schools – whether a public, private, charter or home school – are welcome to attend our program. Our seminar is held at the Silver Bay Resort and Conference Center in Silver Bay, NY.
Amanda Walshjamin is the HOBY NY East Director of Recruitment. She is a 2000 alumnus of the program and has volunteered with the seminar for 20 years! She, and her recruitment committee, will be helping you throughout the registration process. With the combined effort of our HOBY volunteer staff and the dedicated staff at each school in our area, we are able to put together a delegation of over 200 high school sophomores each year and enable each of them to develop and refine their leadership skills.
The Registration Process
Each fall you should receive, via email, a registration packet, containing information on the HOBY program and suggestions on how to nominate a sophomore leader to participate in the local seminar. If you did not receive this information, it is available online in both English and Spanish. However, if you did not receive an email, please let us know as our email address for you might be incorrect.

Each school can register up to 4 students for our seminar. The first student registered is designated as the primary student and has a registration fee of $225. The other students are each designated as additional students and must pay the $225 registration fee as well as a $170 sponsorship fee.
These fees do not need to be paid immediately. While schools generally pay the registration fee for the primary student, we understand that this may not be possible in all situations. Occasionally organizations and businesses in the community may be contacted to pay all or part of this fee, and as a last resort, the family may pay the fee. However, if you do encounter difficulties in finding the funds to select a sophomore, do not let that prevent you from selecting a student! If this is the case, please contact us, and we will try to find a solution.
